In the early days of high-resolution X-ray CT, it was quickly adopted by geoscientists to provide 3D images of geomaterials and mineral building materials at high spatial resolution. Throughout the years, geosciences has remained one of the most important applications of micro-CT and its related techniques and has been a driver for numerous developments.

For this reason, the third IntACT advanced course will focus on a range of aspects that are particularly relevant for researchers in the broad scope of geosciences and geoengineering. Despite the differences which can be present between different sub-disciplines, there are numerous shared aspects or related techniques, with a strong potential for cross-discipline interaction. In this course, we aim to exploit this potential by gathering lecturers as well as attendees from all aspects in geosciences and geoengineering.

The course will start with some fundamental introductions to computed tomography and analysis techniques with a focus on geosciences. We will then dive into various specialities for application in the mining & energy sectors, as well as for construction materials. Topics include:  Process mineralogical applications, structural/mechanical properties and coupled processes, geomaterial micromechanics, porosity, pore connectivity, and transport properties including pore-scale modelling and dynamic imaging.  The presenters are experts with strong track records in the area and have been assembled from Africa, Europe, Australasia, and North America.
