Lecture 9 by Edson Charikinya, Dept. Chemical Engineering, University of Cape Town, South Africa / Kibo Energy.

Title: Unleashing 3D Insights for Improved Heap Leaching Efficiency.

My talk will showcase the power of X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) in mineral processing through a practical case study involving microwave-treated sphalerite and copper ores. I will explore how XCT provides invaluable 3D data on internal particle structure changes during heap leaching, particularly crack propagation, ultimately impacting leaching recovery. By comparing and contrasting with traditional 2D techniques, I will highlight the advantages and limitations of XCT, offering insights for its effective implementation in optimizing  mineral processing operations.

Biography: Dr. Edson Charikinya, an expert in Renewable Energy and Sustainability, boasts over a decade of leadership in the mineral and energy sectors.
